April Real Estate News

To my clients, family and friends, I hope you are all safe and in good health and fairing the best you can in this truly extraordinary time. As we navigate these difficult times, we will all share a common goal; to do what we need to do to keep ourselves and fellow Canadians safe. And not just Canadians but people of the world. I hope that the time spent at home has surprised you in some positive ways. But if during these times you have felt alone, please reach out and let's have a chat. Now more than ever it's important to be connected in whichever way is possible.

As you may or may not know, real estate services are a non-medical essential service therefore real estate agents are continuing to conduct business. You might think that the real estate market would grind to a screeching halt during a pandemic, but it hasn't. No matter the circumstances some people still need to buy or sell property. What seems to be happening currently is that buyers and sellers are quite motivated.

The way in which real estate agents are conducting business today has been adapted to make sure everyone is safe. In my newsletter I touch on the ways buyers can view property and how those selling can make it easy and safe for those wanting to view their home.

In regards to home sales, recent statistics show that March was off to a hot start and then started to decline mid-month. For the full report see the Fraser Valley stats further into my newsletter.

If you are planning to make a move or just want to discuss your real estate goals or have questions about how real estate transactions work right now, please don't hesitate to email or call me for a chat. dsims@remax.net / 778-227-8385

I also want to take a minute to bring attention to all the healthcare workers, first responders and everyone providing essential services during this time. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The work you are doing right now is so very important and so greatly appreciated.

Fraser Valley Housing Stats for March 2020March sales and new listing data show preliminary impact of COVID-19 on Fraser Valley housing market

SURREY, BC – The most up to date Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) data from the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board (FVREB) indicates COVID-19 has put the market on pause, as REALTORS® and the public adhere to health authority rules and government guidelines on the pandemic.
By the end of March, the FVREB processed a total of 1,441 sales on its MLS®, a 7 per cent increase compared to sales in February 2020, and an 18 per cent increase compared to the 1,221 sales in March 2019. During the first seven business days of the month, property sales were tracking 60 per cent higher compared to the same period in March of last year, however finished significantly lower.
Chris Shields, President of the Board, observes,
"Sales were steadily increasing as is typical moving into spring, and then understandably and necessarily, they started to decline. We serve the public and we understand it is very challenging to buy or list a home while maintaining physical distancing, however if you need us, know that we are here for you."
